چکیده
Depression is a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide the most common complication perinatal period. Women in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are disproportionately impacted by depression. Maternal child health (MCH) clinics widely attended SSA, offering potential access point for depression screening. Yet, selection optimal screening instruments use within MCH SSA remains unclear. We synthesized evidence depicting relative strength scales among African women four evaluation domains: 1) diagnostic performance, 2) cultural adaptation, 3) feasibility ease implementation, 4) experience using tool populations. The Edinburgh Postnatal Scale (EPDS) Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) had peripartum balance feasibility, performance metrics, adaptations. Other depressive developed general populations show strengths application at least one domain. Building services capacity to integrate routine visits an important next step address SSA.

Admixture into and within sub-Saharan Africa
Similarity between two individuals in the combination of genetic markers along their chromosomes indicates shared ancestry and can be used to identify historical connections between different population groups due to admixture. We use a genome-wide, haplotype-based, analysis to characterise the structure of genetic diversity and gene-flow in a collection of 48 sub-Saharan African groups. We sho...

متن کاملChildren’s stunting in sub-Saharan Africa: Is there an externality effect of high fertility?
A positive relationship between the number of siblings and a child’s chance of being stunted has been seen in several studies. It is possible that individual stunting risks are also raised by high fertility in the community, partly because of the impact of aggregate fertility on the local economy, but this issue has not been addressed in earlier investigations. In this study we estimate the ind...
